When it comes to acne, people usually just have to deal with the blemishes and pimples on their face. There are a lot of other acne causes for people to deal with as well. Some of these include your diet, hormone levels, pollutants in the air, and stress. However, some of the worst acne causes of them all happen on your face.
Acne is caused when one of two things happen in your body: your hormones or your oil production level go out of control. If either one of these ever go out of whack, you’re going to have a breakout. These two things often cause your oil glands to become hyperactive, causing excess oil production and breakouts to occur. This oil production can actually push bacteria and dirt deeper into the pores and clog them up. Bacteria and dirt aren’t the only acne cause; excessive hormones are also a big one.
The hormones responsible for causing a breakout on your face are dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and testosterone. DHT is the main reason why we get acne in our hair follicles on the scalp, but testosterone is the one that causes your oil glands to get hyperactive and cause acne on the surface of your skin. This is why women are more prone to acne on the forehead than men. The reason for this is because the hormones for women are completely different than the ones for men.
Women tend to produce more androgens (male hormones), which is what leads to excess oil production and the breaking out of acne around the face. A woman’s testosterone level peaks during puberty. Production of DHT then begins to ramp up, leading to acne around the face. While men do have testosterone, they usually produce less of it and therefore don’t have a problem with acne anywhere on their body. However, the fact that testosterone is more present in males than females could explain why there are so many acne breakouts on men’s faces.
You can also help fight acne blemishes by keeping your face clean and using acne treatment products that are specifically designed to treat this problem. For example, you can wash your face at least twice per day with a mild or anti-bacterial cleanser. If your skin doesn’t seem to respond well to an anti-bacterial cleanser or if you have severe acne problems, you should look for a cream or lotion that contains salicylic acid. Salicylic acid helps to unclog pores and reduce the buildup of dead skin cells. You can also find creams that are designed to treat whitehead and blackhead zits that tend to pop up after your pimples have dried up.
Using an acne spot treatment on your pimple periodically is another way to keep your face free from blemishes. A spot treatment works by drawing the pimple surface away from the skin and allowing new skin to replace it. It’s important to use an acne spot treatment at least once a day, especially if your pimples tend to pop up at unusual times like when you’re sleeping. Pimples that have remained open for more than 24 hours should always be treated by a doctor.
